Our final Detroit Grooves episode features the incredible Drummer B! A major force in Detroit’s electronic music scene, Drummer has worked with legends like Proof, Danny Brown, and more. His signature space bounce sound blurs the line between electro, techno, house, funk, and hip hop; no set is the same due to his creative, multi-MPC approach to live remixes of original music. We were so lucky that DJ Stacey Hotwaxx Hale shared a few of her mixes with us during our last session. Here’s a clip of the track “Freedom,” produced by Hotwaxx and Norma Jean Bell, featuring poetry by jessica Care moore.
During our fifth Detroit Grooves workshop, poet jessica Care moore delivered an important message on the arts and artists of Detroit. Throughout our session we talked about the connections between lyrics and music, the art of writing, and how to represent yourself and your city on a global stage. We’ll continue this discussion on Friday, April 30th!

jessica Care moore is an internationally renowned poet, performance artist, playwright, and producer from Detroit. Her work has been featured at The Apollo Theatre, The Smithsonian, the Charles H. Wright Museum, and in publications such as The New York Times, Vibe, Essence, The Metro Times, and numerous others. We are fortunate to feature Ms. moore as our next Detroit Grooves artist! She will talk with our students about her work in spoken word and music, and will lead a poetry writing workshop aimed at developing students’ creative voices through collaboration.
