Denver Chapter Payroll Association
While at the Rocky Mountain Regional Payroll Association Learning Series last weekend, I also had the pleasure of presenting the Board Member of the Year award to Heather Cummings, CPP. Two years ago, Nicol Kielian, CPP, SPHR (formerly Elder) challenged the board to step out of their comfort zone.
Heather took on the roll of Government Liaison Officer or GLO responsible for keeping the chapter up to date on legislation changes. We all know payroll never ever need to pivot when laws change right?! Heather started the GLO blog which has been a great resource for our chapter members and you can check it out on the chapter website.
This year, Heather served on the board as Treasurer. Heather has done an amazing job auditing the chapter finances and keeping me on track with the chapter budget. She also helped Marci and Jessica with proclamations for National Payroll Week and serving on the RMRPLS planning committee. I sincerely appreciate Heather's contributions to the chapter this year.
I wanted to share a few words that were said by fellow chapter members about Heather, "Heather has done a tremendous job as treasurer. It's her first year but she has jumped in, been open to learning and kept the budget up to date as well as keeping the board involved and aware of what is happening. She has helped Cathy with budgeting for Learning Series as well as Marci with National Payroll Week and Membership. Thank you for being open and transparent with the budget. Hope to see you again next year on the board!"

Its been a busy week for the chapter! Thursday night was chapter meeting with Steve Rothenburgh, CPP teaching us about prevailing wages and certified payroll.
Friday, we had our first session of the Rocky Mountain Regional Payroll Association Learning Series at Junior Achievement and learned all about taxes. We had a great session and lots of great speakers.
Today was our first session of the summer/fall study group where we learned about Non-resident aliens, resident aliens, visas, what an employee is, and how to calculate regular rate of pay. Thank you to our presenters of Chapter 1 Jesika Bachman, CPP and Chapter 14 Cyndi Davidson, CPP.
I was honored to get to share our chapter's goals this year of increasing membership and engagement. This year, in place of a regional conference, we are stepping out of the comfort zone a little bit with the Learning Series. Our next session will be August 23rd at Junior Achievement where we will be celebrating National Payroll Week, teaching a Money Matters class, and raising funds to benefit Junior Achievement. Watch for more details about speakers and schedule on the chapter website.
