Hey ladies. I have not been on top of marketing this but we will have a Mom support group today at starpoint spin preschool on Elm Street. 1:30-2:30

I made a quick video to talk about what the group is about but essentially it is a social and support groups for mom during any part of their early parenting journey. If you need breast feeding support, I can offer that as well, but all moms are welcome.

I thought it would be fun for today to share our birth stories please let me know if you’re are going to make it.

Starting this month I will be launching our Herbal Mentorship. Patreons at the Seedling level and above will get a once a month Materia Medica training - we will do a deep dive into the therapeutics of specific herbs. I will also offer a once a month Q/A for all members.

Hey ladies! It’s been a while since I posted on here. I know it’s not a very active page. I stepped away from birth work for the last few years, only doing word-of-mouth consultations.

But now I’m ready to step back into birth work in a bigger capacity and serve our community! I’m starting off with these wonderful giveaways- info below. I would appreciate any likes and shares!

You made it through labor. Your baby is in your arms. You've finally gotten her to latch and she's enjoying that potent colostrum you have on tap. All of a sudden you feel a strong cramp start to build....

Wait, what? More contractions after baby is born? Yup! These are called afterpains and they're the postpartum cramping that no one warned you about!

Let's start with what they are: After you birth your placenta, your body starts shrinking the uterus back to its original size - its weight is reduced by 95% over 6 weeks. This process of squeezing it back into shape and size occurs through - you guessed it - uterine contractions.

Afterpains usually start within the first 12 hours of birth, last a few days, and get more and more intense with each subsequent baby, as each pregnancy causes the uterus to become slightly more stretched, and, therefore, greater contracting needs to occur.

BF'ing stimulates the release of oxytocin, which causes the uterine to contract, so nursing often will speed up the process even if it brings them on!

Afterpains can range in intensity from mild period cramps to sensations as strong as labor contractions. And as a brand new mama with a brand new baby - this can feel like a lot to get through.

So save this post and/or share with your birth team, so they are prepared to support you in navigating the waves.

Comfort and relief for afterpains:
❣️Midwives and herbalists have long recommended herbs like cramp bark and motherwort for the relief of afterpains - swipe right above for the full list
❣️A warm bath, hot-water bottle, or hot rice packs (swipe above for recipe) applied to the lower back or lower abdomen can help provide comfort
❣️Moxibustion treatments, which can be performed by an acupuncturist, massage therapist, or postpartum doula
❣️After-birth Massage Oil massaged into aching muscles - swipe above for recipe
❣️Tylenol and ibuprofen are considered safe while breastfeeding and can help if needed

And, as you know far too well at this point - this too shall pass. Likely within 72 hours in fact.

Did you experience afterpains? Were they surprising? What helped you get through them?
