The Algorithm of Almost

I spent years convinced that enough logic and knowledge would finally deliver different outcomes.

That’s what we’re taught, right?

So I read everything. Built frameworks. Collected credentials like Shohei Ohtani’s rookie cards. Every time something clicked, I’d get that hit of clarity, relief, the dopamine rush of now I got it figured out…..almost.

Time passes, and this sneaky feeling of insecurity is back. I’d be back at the whiteboard drawing arrows between concepts like a detective in a crime drama who’s definitely about to get taken off the case.

Logic feels like a staircase. You’re climbing, it’s productive, you’re getting somewhere. Except you’re not.

You’re on a treadmill.

Exhausted, back in the same places, same feelings, same situations.

You Almost got it. What else could possibly solve it?

More logic. More knowledge. More searching. Right back on the treadmill.

Took me an embarrassing number of years and decades to notice: the mind that formulated the question cannot resolve the question. It can only generate increasingly elegant versions of the same confusion.

Now with better vocabulary, a better library of knowledge, and projecting that I’m Almost there!

Well, it’s time to get on the treadmill. Another subscription to the next thing that promises to finally be the last thing. Almost there, Dan.

The treadmill doesn’t stop when you find the answer. It stops when you catch your hand reaching for the switch again—and laugh at yourself for thinking this time would be different.

I just need more logic, more outside truths, more books, more insights, others’ experiences to finally see exactly what I didn’t want to see. Which was?

What if the most amazing gift you could give yourself this holiday season wasn’t more new year’s goals or the same old chore to acquire more knowledge going into 2026?

Not another book. Not another skill that needs to be learned. Not another strategy to grow, all of which gloss over what’s really been running underneath and end up as distractions before we return to the same patterns.

Personally, I spent years adding tools. More knowledge. Better frameworks. Coaching that promised to fix what I thought just needed a little retuning. Thinking if I just understood enough, I could finally get ahead of the patterns that kept showing up and magically life would evolve differently.

It didn’t work. Not really the outcomes I was hoping for. But it all had to happen to get to the point of “no more.”

What shifted things wasn’t learning more. It was finally seeing what had been running beneath the surface all along - the need to be heard, the force behind my words, the parts of me that were driving decisions I thought I was making consciously.

Once I saw it, something settled. Not because I fixed it. Because I finally met it head on.

That’s the gift I’d want for anyone I care about. Not more coping. Not better strategies. But the kind of internal shift that changes how you move through the world - and how the world receives you.

The patterns asking for your attention aren’t problems to solve. They’re invitations. There’s no better time to accept than now.

Wishing everyone a season of real connection - with others and with yourself.

I used to communicate with force. It’s a sneaky way of communicating rooted in fear or a desire to be heard.

Not volume. Not aggression. Just this underlying push - a need to be understood, to make sure my point landed, to be heard.

It showed up in how much I explained. How I’d keep going when I could have stopped. The energy behind the words mattered more than the words themselves.

The consequence wasn’t conflict. It was a distance. People didn’t push back - they didn’t lean in. Something about it didn’t feel heartfelt, even when I meant every word.

The pattern wasn’t about what I was saying. It was about why I was saying it.

Now words land differently. Not because I’ve become a better communicator. Because the force behind them is gone.

There’s less explaining. More listening. I share when it’s useful, not when I need to. The difference shows up in how people respond - they lean in instead of walling up. There’s a magnetism that wasn’t there before.
This pattern shows up in almost every client we work with.

The need to be heard, the push underneath the words. It just wears different clothes. For some, it’s in relationships - the way they over-function or over-explain with partners or family. For others, it shows up at work, in leadership, in how they present themselves in rooms where they want to be taken seriously.

Same pattern. Different context. Once you see it, it changes how you move and how you’re received.

Transforming Fear and Anger: The Alchemy of Pain into Power
The gifts you’ve been rejecting are the ones that set you free.
Your fear isn’t the problem. Your anger isn’t toxic. Your pain isn’t the enemy.
Running from them or not confronting them is.
Here’s what nobody tells you:
-That fear you’re avoiding? It’s showing you what needs healing.
-That anger you’re suppressing? It’s revealing where boundaries were crossed.
-That pain you’re numbing? It’s holding the key to your freedom.
We expect these feelings to disappear “one day” without doing anything. They don’t disappear. They accumulate. Layer by layer, building pressure, creating suffering, until you finally turn around and face them.
Here’s the truth: From coal comes diamonds. But only under pressure. Only with intention and focused energy.
Water doesn’t boil instantly. It looks unchanged while energy transforms it molecule by molecule. Then suddenly, the shift happens.
Your transformation works the same way. You can’t bypass the heat. You can’t skip the pressure. You can’t wait for “one day.”
You have to: → Stop running from what you feel → See fear and anger as messengers, not enemies → Apply conscious heat (do the actual work) → Trust the process even when nothing seems to change.
The pain you’re carrying isn’t trying to destroy you. It’s trying to transform you. But only if you stop avoiding it. So here’s my question for you:
What fear or anger have you been running from that’s actually a gift waiting to be opened?
Drop a 💎 or comment if this resonates. Sometimes naming it is the first step. The alchemy begins when you stop fleeing and start feeling.
