Last week, two grant-awarding agencies announced recipients from the 88th District.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal awarded their 2026 Small Equipment Grants to fire districts/departments and EMS providers across Illinois. Thanks to the passage of SB 2645, volunteer fire departments may be added to this list of qualifying departments, pending the Governor’s signature, and I was glad to support the bill.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources awarded $495,000 in federal grants to 73 volunteer departments across the state, which included three departments from the 88th district.
Congratulations to the recipients! I thank you for your continued commitment to keeping our communities safe.

Property taxes are one the biggest issues I hear about from my constituents. On top of the high costs, Cook County homeowners are facing yet another property tax delay. Democrats need to join us in the fight for lasting fixes to our state’s property tax system. Our families need relief.
Cook County property tax bills delayed again — this time by 2 months A $300 million no-interest county loan program will help local governments relying on tax revenue they won't get on time, but Chicago Public Schools don't qualify for the loans.
One week ago the House adjourned its Spring Session. Take a look at what an average day in May looks like at the State Capitol.

Today, we honor the bravery and sacrifices of the heroes who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day to liberate Western Europe from the tyranny and oppression of N**i control. We must never forget their sacrifices.

Today, the Chicago Bears announced their potential departure from Illinois to Hammond, Indiana. I am appalled by the Democrats’ fumble on this negotiation but cannot say I am surprised. Instead of fostering a competitive economic environment, the majority party continues to impose higher taxes and fees on businesses and families. The Bears’ decision to leave is a glaring example of the consequences of years of poor policy.
“The potential loss of the Bears would be devastating for our state,” said Rep. Deering. “Not only would more than 100 years of history be uprooted, but our economy would suffer due to the habitual inaction of the Democrat supermajority. Governor Pritzker and Speaker Welch can blame anyone they want, but the reality is that Illinois’ anti-business policies and high-tax, high-cost environment are driving businesses away.”

When it comes to the legislation process, we can count on the House Democrats’ failed playbook to deliver higher taxes, more spending, and less transparency. Under Democrats, transparency rules are suspended so they can spend more of your hard-earned tax dollars, making Illinois an even more expensive place to work and raise a family.

During the passage of the budget, House Democrats declared victory on “affordability.” The $800 million in new taxes used to balance a nearly $56 billion budget, passed in the dead of night, beg to differ. While Democrats talked about affordability, my colleagues and I offered real solutions to lower costs for Illinois families. Our affordability package included my bill, HB 4519, which would eliminate the state tax on tips.
On Affordability, Democrats Say One Thing and Do Another Throughout the spring legislative session, Democrats repeatedly claimed affordability was their top priority for Illinois families. But when...

It seems like Democrats here in Illinois are so desperate for new taxes that they have resorted to copying failed ideas from the Mayor of Chicago. Included in the budget is a $200 million social media tax, taxing platforms based on the number of users per month. This would affect platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Ultimately, this is just another tax that will be passed onto the consumers of these very popular apps.
Session slog ends in $56B budget, new taxes on social media companies, crypto, fantasy sports Illinois lawmakers passed a $59B budget with new business taxes, frozen gas tax hikes and funding tradeoffs.

Early this morning, the General Assembly voted to delay the implementation of the Interchange Fee Prohibition Act (IFPA) for another year. IFPA prohibits interchange fees, otherwise known as “swipe fees” on the sales tax and tip portions of card transactions from being implemented by banks and credit card companies. The law would incentivize merchants to make multiple transactions, creating chaos for customers.
The law, originally passed in 2024, will now be delayed for two consecutive years if the Governor signs this latest measure into law. The bill passed the House unanimously.
