Innovation, entrepreneurship, and community impact took center stage at the Innovators Table during a thought-provoking fireside conversation featuring Jaylen Brown, founder of the 7uice Foundation, and Dr. Lonnie Johnson, founder and chairman of the Johnson STEM Activity Center. (And the inventor of the super soaker!)
Together, they explored the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship, STEM education, and community leadership while highlighting the importance of investing in organizations dedicated to empowering the next generation of innovators.
One of the evening’s most memorable moments came from Dr. Lonnie Johnson, who shared this powerful reminder:

His words served as a testament to the power of imagination, resilience, and using creativity to shape opportunities, not only for ourselves, but for future generations.
Atlanta continues to be a hub where leaders from sports, technology, business, and philanthropy come together to inspire meaningful change, proving that innovation extends far beyond the laboratory.

Three years ago, we met a couple who attended one of our Coffee Chat & Brunch Mixers in Atlanta. Rebecca Casselman
At the time, it was simply a conversation, a connection, and an opportunity to build a relationship. There was no immediate ask, no “what can you do for me?” moment. Just genuine networking.
Fast forward three years later, and Mandisa Johnson has now cast for a project for this same couple and that film she cast for, has now been selected in the Cobb International Film Festival and will screen on Saturday, August 8th! Tit’s Out Movie
THIS is why relationships matter.
Networking is not about meeting people you can use when you need something. It’s not about showing up once and expecting someone to hand you an opportunity because you’re talented. It’s about building trust, showing up, supporting others, and allowing authentic connections to grow over time.
In this industry, opportunities often come from relationships you started years ago. The person you meet today could be the person you collaborate with tomorrow.
So instead of asking, “What can they do for me?” ask, “How can I build a meaningful connection?”
Because the people who genuinely invest in relationships are often the ones who find themselves in the room when opportunities happen.

Last night reminded us that the best networking isn’t about collecting business cards. It’s about building genuine relationships.
