A bittersweet moment 🤍
2 years ago, a young, driven, kind of crazy girl walked into 710 Bank Street with dreams of creating a fun shopping experience. Now—a young but much wiser, driven but more realistic, still kind of crazy girl is closing a chapter she never thought she’d end.
My Dad always told me most businesses fail within the first 5 years. A lot of people may name Margaux as one of the many small businesses that came to a screeching hault—but it didn’t. Margaux did everything I wanted it to do and more. It gave me a place to shed my creative mind; Women a place to feel comfortable while finding new and unique ways to express their personalities; and Bank Street a little s***k with the bright colors and bizarre decor, all while serving as my source of income that got me out of my Dad’s house (your welcome Dad!). I wanted Margaux to be perfectly unique in my own little imperfect way. I believe it was just that.
If you would’ve told me 2 years ago I’d be walking away from my own little piece of paradise, I would’ve said you’re crazy. 20 year old me—so independent, so fearless, so single minded. I’m stepping into new roles, including being a wife, I’m learning new hobbies and picking back up old ones. I’m still working towards a degree while trying to navigate being a young girl in her 20’s. Owning a business while trying to figure your future out—a future that now involves two people rather than one—can be a bit challenging. Margaux never held me back because Margaux was my dream. As I’ve grown up, I’ve realized there’s more to life than fun prints and textured patterns.
At 23, I still have a whole lot of world left to discover and whole lot more mess-ups to have. Probably start a few more businesses, backpack through Europe, and maybe run for President. Who knows, Margaux 2.0 might make its appearance back in the world once I have a little more experience at this whole life thing. This world is far too big and filled with too many good people to not take every opportunity.
Here I go—Off on my next adventure. Another one I’m not quite ready for, but 100% excited for.
