HANNA UPGRADED TO A HURRICANE...With sustained winds now at 75 mph, Hanna is officially a category 1 hurricane. A slight increase in intensity is expected right before landfall which is currently expected around 3pm this afternoon. Landfall is mostly likely in Kenedy County, but landfall in Willacy County is still possible. Conditions will deteriorate as we go through the morning and into the afternoon hours. Winds will be picking up and more and more heavy rain will fall. The worst conditions for most of the Valley are expected during the evening and overnight hours.

The current forecast calls for 70-90 mph wind gusts in Willacy County and 50-70 mph wind gusts for the rest of the Valley. 6-9" rain totals look most common by early Monday morning. A few 3" totals may occur, but a worst case scenario of 18" in a few spots cannot be ruled out. Widespread flooding is likely. Join us on Channel 5 News at 9am for a full report.
