I got to witness the sweetest thing during my private Hypnobabies class yesterday! Dad feeling his baby moving around for the first time 😍😍😍 Babies love our class, mom relaxes and they get a dose of those happy hormones and get so active!

This is an “engagement” technique for labor to use only after 10 contractions with Abdominal Lift and Tuck. Walcher’s Position will allow contractions to engage a baby that is high, not really in the pelvis yet. The baby may be stuck at the brim or inlet of the pelvis. Use this position through and between three contractions in a row to lower baby into a normal pelvic brim. Contractions make it work.

Such a good graphic to explain what is normal for breastfeeding frequency!

I've drawn this graphical representation for clients around 6 times in the last couple of weeks, to illustrate how most parents imagine the pattern of breastfeeds in a newborn will look like over a 24 hr time span (every 3 hrs) versus the reality, (lots of feeding, some long feeds, some short feeds, some ling gaps, some feeds closely spaced.) Babies do not feed like clockwork every 3 hours, yet most of the new parents I am seeing have an expectation that they should. Some are getting themselves into a panic when baby sleeps longer than 3 hours (trying to wake them with a wet flannel), or giving them infant formula when they show feeding cues less than 3 hours after a feed.

It's National Midwifery week! I personally am a midwifery convert and will continue to go for my well-woman appointments. I appreciate all the midwives out there giving us lots of their time and attention. Mine would text my husband asking about me after my second was born because I was having some trouble adjusting to two under two. She had us come in and she sat with us while I cried and helped walk us through ideas on how to help bedtimes with my toddler and a newborn go more smoothly. Midwives and doulas are the answer for making sure new mothers don't fall through the cracks. If you look at the statistics, that's exactly what we need right now.
