What am I reading this summer???? Well, tons of classical literature with my 8 year old….and this!

I’m only half way through, but it’s amazing! Let me share one story from this book:

Elephants in Captivity

One day a dad was taking his daughter to ride and elephant. When he arrived at the attraction, he hauled and refused to go near the elephant. When the worker asked why, the father stated that the elephant only had a rope around its leg but it was not tied to anything. The elephant could charge and hurt them.

The worker explained that elephants in captivity are tied to a tree when babies with a rope around their leg. They try to fight to get free, but when they are so little, the tree cannot be budged. They learn that the rope around their leg has power over them. As they grow, their power increases and the tree would no longer be able to control them. But they don’t know that. If that rope is around their leg, they act as if they are stuck, and thus are docile.

As sad as this is for the elephants, aren’t we like this too?

What ropes are around your leg today? I have many.

What if we realized that those aren’t attached to anything NOW and this should not and cannot keep us from moving forward???

This book, yall!!!! It’s SO good!!!!
