At Kunstmuseum Basel, Helen Frankenthaler’s landmark exhibition brings together more than fifty works spanning six decades, tracing the evolution of one of the most important artists of American postwar abstraction. Frankenthaler transformed painting with her soak-stain technique, pouring diluted paint onto unprimed canvas so that color became part of the fabric itself.
