Scenes of Dallas! The Flying Red Horse was created as the the logo of the Magnolia Oil Company, and eventually became a Dallas landmark. In 1934 the original porcelain enamel & red neon Pegasus sign was installed on the roof of the Magnolia Building in downtown Dallas, at the corner of Akard & Commerce Streets. This building was 29-stories & became the first skyscraper, the tallest building in Texas for the times, & was the first air conditioned high-rise. The Pegasus became “landmark sign” for Big D, becoming the property of the City of Dallas in 1976, and is part of the Public Art collection. In 2000, the original Pegasus was restored & is now located on the grounds in front of the in downtown Dallas.
