When we’re avoiding a hard people conversation, we usually have a story ready.

“It’s not the right time.”
“They’re going through a lot personally.”
“Let’s see what happens after this big project wraps.”
“Maybe I’m being too sensitive.”
“They might surprise me.”
“I just need to be patient.”

Each of those stories sounds reasonable. Some of them might even be true. But notice what they all do. They postpone the conversation without changing the situation.

And while we wait, the situation usually doesn’t get smaller.

It gets quieter and more expensive.

Pro Tip: A strong Q3 starts before Q3 starts.

Before the quarter begins, don’t just ask what needs to get done. Ask what needs to be true by September 30 for the business, the team, and your clients to be in a stronger position.

Then get specific. Growth gets cleaner when the team has clarity, capacity, and a shared definition of success.

Busy is not the goal. Focused and aligned is.

Q3 is almost here, which means this is a good moment to pause before the calendar fills itself for you. The question is not just, “What do we need to get done?”

The better question is, "What needs to be true by September 30 for Q3 to be considered successful?"

Growth doesn't usually stall because leaders lack ideas. It stalls because everything becomes important, ownership gets blurry, and the team keeps carrying unfinished work into the next quarter like emotional support luggage.

Q3 is a chance to reset. Pick the few priorities that matter most and decide what needs to pause so the right work can move forward.

A stronger quarter starts before the quarter starts.

"Great Hires, Bad Outcomes.

You're not alone. It happens to the best of us.

The hire was not necessarily wrong, but the environment around the hire set them up to struggle.

Why great hires sometimes fail even when they are talented, experienced, and well-intentioned.
