Weeks Three - Eight
Hi Eberbody. Thunder the Wonder Dog Here. It’s been a while since I’ve updated my progress livin here wif Seeley. Normy, Pony. N Momma. I’ve been workin reely hard on learnin how to be a happy, secure, spoiled hound. Momma sez I’ve made tons of progress, but it has been a series of ups N downs. She sez it’s like dancin, a few steps forward N then lots of steps backward.
Here’s wot I’ve been learnin.
The other kids like me and eberbody has their own specialty. Seeley has been teachin me how to play bitey face, tug, how to throw stuffies In the air, catch them and then give them good shakes. (This mornin momma was sittin down in the hooman potty room doin her business. I threw a stuffie so hard it went thru the door N bonked her in da head. Ooooops) Pony N I run the yard every day lookin for the squirrel brothers Freddie N Charlie. They are very rood squirrels. They run the top of the fence, hop from the shed to the tree and then back when we aren’t lookin. Pony taught me that it’s safe to go thru the door even if momma is standing there. It’s owr job to go owt and chase Freddie N Charlie cuz they eat all da bird seed N sunflower seeds momma puts owt. Her LadyShip oversees announcements and schedules. She is very particular on snack N dinner times. We are sad to report that momma apparently cannot tell time. Lady Norma sez it’s rather embarrisin that us poor hounds cud actually starve to def.
In weeks five and six, I really started being momma’s shadow if she didn’t move too fast. (Even now if she turn’s around too fast or I meet her cominn down the hall, I skitter off sometimes.) I don’t run away anymore. Just walk very fast (puffs owt chest). I still get upset when momma’s roommate comes in and I bark and run away. After she is in the house or if momma isn’t here, I can go talk to her and even sometimes, I let her pet me.
Amazon drivers shud all be ladies. I reeely don’t like it when men delivery hoomans come on the porch. The other night we were in the yard and the hoomans next door were talkin. When I realized they were men, I started frantically pacing around the yard and flew to the back door so momma could let me inside. It was hours, N I reely had to p*ee before I wud come owt.
Momma has a silly song she sings when she feeds Seeley, Normy, N Pony. She even made one up just for me. Up until last week, momma had to put my bowl down and leave the room. If she came back in to sit on the couch with her coffee, I would run off. Little by little she talked to me and got me to take steps toward her. I am pleased to report that tonite She stood only two steps away and I came up and ate my supper.
I’ve also made progress goin in and out the door. In the beginning I wouldn’t go thru the door if momma was near it. Even when I woke her up at four in the mornin to go p*e, I made her go all the way on the patio and sit in a chair wot was almost out of site. Now I can stand rite next to her or chase Pony and it doesn’t bother me.
When she has been gone and comes home, I run and do greyhound pouncy feet and let her play chase with me. (I like it better when she chases me. (whispers) don’t tell her but she doesn’t run very fast so chasin her is not much of a game. I don’t want to hurt her feelings, so I do a couple laps around the yard then hop in front of her with wot Seeley sez is getting to be a reely good Play Bow.
I like lyin on the couch with Pony N Seeley. Sumtimes they get a bit persnikity when I lie down on top of them. My favorite is lyin next to momma with my head on her lap or shoulder. She calls me a cuddle bug and gives me ear skritches, that makes me feel yummy.
Those are the highlights of the last few weeks. It doesn’t take up a lot of room on paper, but it reely has been quite exhausting. Momma has been teachin me “Watch Me”. So when I get skeered I can concentrate on her and it will help me calm down. She says it helps with lots of things. I don’t reely understand it all but I’m doin my best to learn it. She says it will help lots when I start goin on adventures with the other kids. Oh. I’m working on liking car rides. Now I lie down where I can see between the seats and look owt. Pony and Seeley like to put their heads out the window. They say eventually I’ll like that too.
This has been a lot of writin. (big yawn) I think I’m going to snuggle with momma for a bit before Pony, Seeley N I go on owr evening patrol.
