During World War II, Hershel “Woody” Williams advanced under constant enemy fire, taking out enemy pillboxes one after another with a flamethrower. When one ran empty, he returned for another and pushed forward again.
For hours, he repeated the cycle without being wounded. His courage remains one of the most powerful examples of American resolve and sacrifice.
