Sicilian Region has approved an important tax incentive: a 50% refund of IRPEF (up to €100,000 per year) for three years for anyone who transfers their residence and tax domicile from abroad to Sicily. To benefit from the measure, applicants must have income from employment or pensions (which can be combined with business income), purchase or renovate a property in Sicily, and maintain their residence for at least one year. In municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, the refund rises to 60%, with the aim of repopulating small Sicilian towns and villages.
The measure, which is unique in Italy according to Regional Economy Councilor Alessandro Dagnino, is at zero cost to the Region. It is designed to generate new tax revenue, trigger growth in human capital, and attract professionals, entrepreneurs, retirees, and young emigrants.
“A particularly welcome result, stemming from an intuition of the Schifani government and fruitful dialogue with Councilor Dagnino. An initiative we have supported since its very conception, precisely because of its potential to repopulate the villages,” declares Vincenzo Arcobelli, representative to the General Council of Italians Abroad and Emeritus President of the Confederation of Sicilians in North America”.
