She is our best reason for speaking Spanish! Meet Abuelita 👵 💕 My husband’s sweet grandma originally from Mexico City.

We flew out to Los Angeles this weekend to surprise her for her 90th birthday party! Everyone did such an amazing job that she almost fainted.

(Much like all of us watching the end of the World Series that night! 😜)

From her stories, to her dancing, to her tamales, she is always the life of the party. I’m so grateful we’ve been able to understand and connect with her over the years.

If you’re wondering if it’s worth it to invest in TalkBox.Mom, just look at her hugging Nolan in the last pic. 😭

As perfectionists, we want to be great when we start. ✨

While doing our best is admirable, falling short right when we start something new isn't disgraceful.

With courage, we can lean in to having fun. 🤩

Having fun will help us bridge that gap and refocus our goal so we keep going.

And when you keep going, you'll make incremental progress and accomplish your goal faster than if you had quit.

💪 How has TalkBox.Mom given you courage?

How do I muster up the courage to speak *new* languages? 😬 Dear goodness.

When I was in high school, I joined the school diving team, which trained at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Two friends of mine climbed up with me to the 10-meter platform — 32 feet or six of me at the time—seven of me if you count the height to my eyeballs.

We peered over the edge, and it was absolutely shake-through-your-soul frightening. How was it possible that the Olympic-sized pool looked so tiny from up there? It wasn’t right.

My friends backed away, and I took a deep breath, walked forward, and jumped as their frantic screams almost pulled my soul back up to the platform.

As I fell through the air, time seemed to slow down. How did I have so much time to think? Would it ever end? And then, as I splashed in, I realized the water was fine.

Did it make it less scary? No. But I was fine.

When we decide to speak another language, I feel the breath leave my chest like it did when I peered down from that 10-meter platform.

And then I straighten myself out and think two things: “I can do this,” and “I want to do this.” Even if I’m not sure if I can or want to!

Without these two thoughts, I would climb back down the ladder like my friends did that day, never splashing into the water to realize I’m fine.

If you feel like your knees are buckling at the thought of speaking another language, it’s a normal response. It’s time to take a big breath before the free fall. I promise TalkBox.Mom will catch you.

Today’s ice breaker: 🌊 How long did it take you to take the plunge and start TalkBox.Mom?
