Brenda Gribbin’s “Cast A Shiny Shadow” is a layered interpretation of growth and new life.

She explains “My early story includes hardship and struggle, but I chose to reach for life like a flower emerging through a sidewalk crack.”

Embodying what it means to write your own ending, after initially quitting college after two semesters, she earned a degree in Art & Performance in her forties - only one semester before her oldest child graduated.

She has represented her rise to ownership and overcoming through her choice of materials, explaining:

“Charcoal is critical to my message because it feels like history is in my hand. My story is in my hand… A glossy surface contrasts with matte charcoal lines…a shiny new outlook beyond the dark days.”
