This month's issue of is dedicated to night time stories and I photographed the cover image at Pedernales Falls State Park. I used 10-12 very dim led lights, one remote flash, and a flashlight to pull it off. Nature did the rest. https://shop.texashighways.com/products/detail?prod_id=2185&_gl=1*1daboy1*_gcl_au*Njg5NDE2NDg4LjE3NzM0MzQ5NDk.

I have a feature story in the March 2026 issue of Texas Highways magazine on the night-blooming cereus, or “queen of the night,” a rare, unique and highly threatened cactus that blooms only one night a year. Writer Rick Bass, San Antonio Botanical Garden scientist Kelsey Wogan and I chased them last year from Alpine to Balmorrhea. It was quite an experience. Rick's story is fantastic, too. Click the link for story and pics and check out the timelapse I did, too. https://texashighways.com/outdoors/the-mysterious-cereus-blooms-in-west-texas/. You can see more of my images from there project here:

I just did some aerial photography in a small Cessna over the Sulfur River in NE Texas, the site of the proposed Marvin Nichols Reservoir that would be flooded to benefit the DFW Metroplex's thirst. The area is beautiful and damming it is neither wise nor necessary. There are many other ways to ensure we all have enough water. Today is the last day to comment in opposition -- follow these directions -- https://mailchi.mp/preservenortheasttexas.org/twdbinterregionalconflict-8339556?e=b33dd3a19e Learn more at Preserve Northeast Texas (https://preservenortheasttexas.org )

This Thursday, I am giving a photography workshop at the 45th Annual Texas Wildflower Day Celebration at Texas Women's University in Denton. This year's theme is "Restore Pollinator Habitats." The keynote speaker is the renowned pocket prairie advocate Douglas Tallamy, PhD, who started the Homegrown National Park movement. https://greensourcedfw.org/articles/twu-host-45th-annual-wildflower-fest-week
