I told Jose we were going to do things the right way this time, even if it meant backtracking on everything we thought we knew.

A few years back, we made the classic mistake of hiring an office assistant when we had no idea how to train them properly. We saw their impressive resume, assumed they'd figure it out, and basically said "you know QuickBooks, right? Show us how it works." Spoiler alert: they expected us to already have systems in place.

Now I handle all our backend operations - billing, scheduling, compliance, making sure we actually get paid. Jose is out in the field managing projects 100% of the time. I'm slowly transitioning into sales after completing a sales bootcamp, alternating proposals with him while I build confidence with products and client conversations.

The goal? Train myself thoroughly in sales so I can eventually hire and properly train an office admin to take over what I'm doing. This time, I'll know exactly what to teach them because I've done every part of the job myself.

After leaving my 10-year education career to support this business, I wasn't about to let us repeat the same hiring mistakes. Sometimes you have to go backward to build the foundation that lets you move forward the right way.
