Trees Hurt Too

These are scale insects! Specifically Lecanium scale. These pests are mostly immobile with shell-like bumps that attach to woody plants to feed on sap.
They resemble small brown helmets and infestations can cause tree stress, foliage drop, and branch dieback.
Management often involves horticultural oils, insecticidal soaps, or systemic insecticides.
