The Price of War. The Weight of Displacement.

Today we sat with one of our *refugee brother*.
He showed us a video his sister sent him from back home.
Gunfire echoed in the background.
Her children were crying in fear.
Windows were shattered by shrapnel.
He sat there in silence — a man who escaped war — now forced to watch it unfold through a phone screen.

He feels helpless. Not only for his sister. But for hundreds of Afghans trapped in a worsening humanitarian crisis.
He earns $1,400 a month here in the U.S. When he received his tax return, $500, he didn’t upgrade his life. He didn’t save it.
He sent it back home — to families begging on the streets — just so they could afford bread to break their fast.

This is the character of the people we serve.

Our brother *Soobhi* who survived the brutality of the Syrian war, walked into our office trembling.
Severe dental pain.
His jaw clicking with every movement.
Fasting. Unable to eat.
Like hundreds of refugees, he has no dental coverage.
War did not break him — but untreated pain here is testing him.

We contacted the student dental clinic at Dallas College so he can at least be evaluated. We gave him Ensure so he could drink something because chewing is unbearable.

*A family* walked in.
A baby on the way.
Father lost his job.
Rent and utilities still due.

*A pregnant mother* contacted from Austin. Due any day now.
She, her husband and 3-year-old child have been detained for five months.
She was released to a shelter because of her approaching due date.
She doesn’t know where to turn.
She doesn’t know who will be there when she gives birth.
She doesn’t know when she will see her family again.

Our sister *Taghred*, hurt during the Syrian war is still struggling with immense pain, but she is still trying to run her catering business and raise her kids.

Every single one of these families wanted the same simple thing:

To live in peace.
To raise their children in safety.
They already paid the price of war.
Now they are paying the price of displacement.
And policy.
And poverty.
And uncertainty.

They need community.
