We have been asked to assist with the rehoming of some special-needs puppies by the breeder. They are posted on our website www.indianasaveadog.com. You will need to fill out an application.

This litter of cocker spaniel puppies have congenital cataracts. We are assisting the breeder in finding them homes. There are 4 females / 2 males.

Puppies born with congenital cataracts can improve as they mature. Right now they have small dots of cloudiness on their eyes. When the area of cloudiness on the lens remains the same size, by the time the puppy becomes an adult, the affected portion of the lens is relatively small. By adulthood, many dogs born with cataracts are able to compensate and see "around" the cloudiness. Treatment may not be necessary until a high degree of vision is lost and cataracts become problematic for the pup. A cataract may affect only a portion of the lens and consequently, some dogs show few signs at all. Cataracts that covers the entire lens may still allow some vision, so the pup can “see” around the cloudy portion. The only known effective treatment for cataracts is surgery. This may be necessary to prevent blindness when they are older or sometimes the cataracts can be painful.

A fenced in yard is required for this puppy , no children under the age of 8 in the household, and someone that is home more and has the time to care for a special needs puppy. The puppy has received 1st vaccines. Adoption fee is $25. A refundable spay/neuter deposit of $75.00 is also required. They are located in Shipshewana, Indiana
