Last night, we got a call that was so unexpected and one that no one ever wants to get. The call was to let us know that Bryce Peck lost his life to a heart attack. For those of you that knew Bryce, it goes without saying that he was one of our greatest supporters, a best friend, a top of the line fire investigator, a two time LA IAAI President, an unbelievable family man and father to two amazing young men. Bryce was also a bit reserved and content with offering gentle support and a helping hand to whoever needed it, never asking for anything in return. What you may not know is that Bryce has been a member of the FIG family since 2013 and played a big part in our success; always thanking us for believing in him when we should have been the one thanking him for his kind heart, honesty, and devotion. He was a man of few words, but in a heartfelt conversation with our son he once told him, "I know you will one day take over this company and I want for you to know I will be here to support you through every step of the way. As long as you take pride in the company the same way your parents do, I will forever stand along side you." All that he wanted was the love of those close to him, and in return he would offer his never ending support. If we learned anything from Bryce, it is that when it comes to supporting the people you love, you do not ask questions, you just show up. He was a gentle giant that will be greatly missed by all...A true Boy Scout through and through. Rest in peace my friend, this is not goodbye, but until we meet again.

It is with a heavy heart that we are posting this, as we recently received word of the passing of Chief Eric Bacon. Eric was a personal friend and an avid supporter of the IAAI and the fire investigation community. He worked tirelessly protecting the community that he served. His dedication and contributions to fire investigations were unwavering and will be missed...not to mention that he is one of few that could get away with telling Rick that he is too short and too angry! For those that knew Eric, you all will attest that his tattoo was 100% accurate.

As the President of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), I would like to offer the following personally, as well as on behalf of the IAAI Executives, Board of Directors, Staff, and Membership. It was both unsettling and disheartening to hear the news regarding the passing of HFD’s Arson Investigator Lemuel D. Bruce. The foundational risks associated with a prodigiously selfless career such as the one fulfilled by the late Lemuel Bruce are omnipresent in all of our minds; however, the proximity of senseless violence is a hard and newly found pill to swallow. On behalf of the IAAI, I would like to offer the sincerest of condolences to the Bruce family and Houston Fire Department and ask that everyone keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Individuals such as Lemuel Bruce are woven into the fabric of our societies, and may we forever be humbled by, and thankful for his sacrifice.
