🚒 Help Us Keep Our Fire Stations Ready for Emergencies
Recently, we've seen an increase in people dropping off household items at our fire stations. While we appreciate everyone trying to dispose of these items responsibly, our fire stations cannot accept the following items:
🩹 1. Personal Sharps Containers
With the increased use of injectable medications, many households now have sharps to dispose of. Unfortunately, we cannot accept personal sharps containers at our stations.
To dispose of sharps safely:
• If using a sharps container, securely seal the opening with heavy-duty tape and place it in your regular household trash.
• If you don't have a sharps container, place used needles in a sturdy plastic container, such as an empty laundry detergent bottle. Seal it tightly and dispose of it in your regular trash.
• Do not place sharps containers or loose needles in your recycling bin.
🧯 2. Home Fire Extinguishers
Household fire extinguishers can typically be disposed of with your regular trash service once they have been properly depressurized and your local waste hauler accepts them. Check with your trash provider if you have questions.
🛢️ 3. Used Motor Oil or Gasoline
Our fire stations cannot accept used motor oil, gasoline, or other automotive fluids. Many auto parts stores, service centers, and oil change businesses offer recycling or proper disposal for used motor oil. Gasoline should be taken to your local household hazardous waste collection program.
Thank you for helping us keep our fire stations focused on serving the community and responding to emergencies. If you have questions about disposing of household items, please contact your local waste or recycling provider for guidance.
