EDIT: Per concern from Meta that I am promoting the consumption of alcohol, I want to make it clear that this post is about the artistic interpretation of a glass bottle that a customer wished to have me reproduce in wood. It is not a promotion of that product - it is about the wood bottle that holds no liquid content.

From glass to grain. 🄃 I was recently commissioned to recreate a bottle of Straight Rye Whiskey entirely out of wood. This was a special gift for one of the partners at the Double Helix Wine and Whiskey Lounge, bringing a piece of Columbus, OH craft back to Nevada.

The challenge was in the details—from the segmented construction to the 'notch' on the bottom ring and the raised monogram on the base, I wanted every element of the original glass bottle to be represented in the wood.

It was an honor to work on such a unique tribute. If you have a one-of-a-kind idea for a gift, let’s talk! Visit ScoGoWoodworking.com to see more of my work.

Suspense III - this natural colored ribbon is made of movingui wood. The suspended sphere and conical stand which protrudes through the ribbon are made of maple and are dyed blending from yellow to fire red. The entire piece has a protective, water based finish. Depending on how it is oriented for display, this piece is approximately 14" wide x 10" deep x 11" tall. $2400.

This is my latest - Open Ripples I. 17" x 17ā€. $1250.

What follows is an AI interpretation of the piece! (The piece is real - no AI. Only the words that follow are AI.)

This piece, titled "Open Ripples I", is a striking example of contemporary geometric abstraction. It uses a monochromatic palette to play with the viewer's perception of depth and movement.

Here is a breakdown of the artistic elements at play:
Visual Composition
The Grid: The work is structured as a 3 \times 3 grid of square blocks mounted onto a striped background. This rigid geometry provides a sense of order that contrasts with the fluid nature of the imagery.
The "Ripple" Effect: Each block features concentric or radial patterns. When viewed as a whole, the center block acts as the "impact point," with the surrounding blocks representing the outward energy of a ripple in a pond.
