Late last month, I had the pleasure of attending a Groundbreaking for the multimillion-dollar Irishtown Bend Hillside project. This crucial $64 million infrastructure project will impact billions in maritime revenue and prevent further erosion and damage into the river, and provide greatly-needed greenspace and parkland for the neighborhood. The project will also link the canal towpath to Lake Erie.

My grandfather was a laborer and helped complete the construction of the Detroit Superior Bridge between 1914 and 1918, so to be part of this groundbreaking was truly a special moment.
