Smart and Successful People Also Fail to Prepare for Retirement. Why?
I am always surprised at how many truly intelligent and high earning people fail to prepare for retirement. It defies what we all expect.
Why does this happen?
Common Reasons Intelligent People Don’t Invest Enough:
• Waiting for the "right time" to start saving.
• Increasing spending every time income increases.
• Prioritizing today's wants over tomorrow's needs.
• Believing they'll make up for lost time later.
• Trying to time the market instead of investing consistently.
• Having a spouse or household that isn't aligned on financial goals.
The good news is that building wealth is often much simpler than people think.
Habits That Tend to Build Wealth:
• Start investing as early as possible. Compounding works over time.
• Save automatically.
• Capture employer matching contributions.
• Increase savings as income rises.
• Stay invested during market downturns.
• Focus on long-term goals rather than short-term headlines.
• Live below your means, even as your income grows.
Financial success is rarely about being the smartest person in the room. Even we mere mortals can do it. It's almost always about developing a good long term plan and sticking to it.
