Sometimes the most important shift we can make is changing the question.

Instead of asking, "What's wrong with this person?" we ask, "What happened to them?"

Trauma-informed approaches recognize that many behaviors, reactions, and coping mechanisms may be rooted in difficult experiences.

When we understand that trauma can shape how people think, feel, trust, communicate, and respond to stress, we create opportunities for greater compassion, connection, and healing.

Research shows that nearly 61% of adults report experiencing at least one adverse childhood experience. These experiences can have lasting effects on physical health, mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.

Yet trauma does not define a person, nor does it determine their future.

Being trauma-informed means creating environments where people feel safe, respected, supported, and empowered. It means leading with curiosity rather than assumptions. It means recognizing strengths alongside struggles and understanding that healing often begins with being seen, heard, and understood.

Whether in healthcare, education, workplaces, or our everyday interactions, trauma-informed approaches help us move from judgment to understanding and from surviving to healing.

Because behavior tells a story. And compassion helps us hear it.
