The Passion Behind This Cause
We recognize that changing the law through traditional legislative processes can be a long and arduous journey, often taking years. But we do not have years – this is a national crisis. Fentanyl poisoning is claiming lives at an alarming rate, and immediate action is needed. This is why we are advocating for fentanyl to be classified as a biochemical weapon. If properly designated, this classification would empower our leaders to make the sale of fentanyl in any amount a capital crime, carrying a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years to life. This solution is achievable and necessary only if we unite behind the cause. We also want to recognize and express our gratitude to the many Angel Moms tirelessly working at the state level to bring about change. Together, we believe this approach offers the fastest and most effective path to deterring dealers and preventing further loss of innocent lives. The reality is that fentanyl is in all of our communities across America. We now must find a way to discourage people from selling or distributing this substance. We believe that this will help.
