Any of us could have been Cody Hull taking a child to the library. And if you were like Cody, you too could have died saving that child's life.

This is a time for us in Chico to mourn. We can be grateful for the heroism of Chico Police Department and Butte County Library workers. And Cody too. Grateful also for the sympathy and support of our compatriots everywhere.

Chico is an American city and mass shootings are an American problem. But yesterday it was in our home in our library and it hurts.
