Ask Geoffrey: What’s the History of Chicago Common Brick? Chicago’s brick buildings put on a refined face for the street side, but if you peek past the facade, you’ll find that what’s holding them up is a little bit rougher. Geoffrey Baer has this history of the Chicago common brick.

A sea of shoring in what will become a lecture hall. The existing masonry bearing wall has been removed and the new structural steel is in place at our Buena Park Historic District project. This is an adaptive reuse project of a 1917 mansion designed by prominent Chicago architects, the Doerr Brothers. The new owners, a book publisher, will reposition the historic mansion to provide a community-oriented lecture hall, library, and offices. @ Buena Park

An exterior elevation rendering for our food and product photography studio project. The new studio will be located in an existing one-story masonry bowtruss building which previously served as a warehouse for industrial weighing scales. In this view, we are able to see two north facing sawtooth skylights which bring even and diffuse light into the space below and help create an ideal environment for photography. Facing the street, insulated garage doors allow for easy movement of equipment in and out of the space. Still more come! @ Chicago, Illinois
