Loved sharing Leadership reDEFYned as a catalyst for individual growth and organizational change with the Center for Operational Excellence at The Ohio State University yesterday! We spent 4 hours together learning how to be not just good, but great leaders - and how to create a culture of authenticity in our environments.

Question: are you showing up as the best version of yourself everyday?

Second Question: are you empowering your team to do the same?

Knee surgery update! The brace is off...I repeat, the brace is off!

Friday I was given permission to remove the brace and start more ā€œfoot plantedā€ activity like the stationary bike, elliptical, and rowing machine. I walked out of that Dr’s office on cloud 9.

More reflection to share!!

1) It is a very uncomfortable thing when you have your independence and freedom of choice taken away. Giving someone permission to ā€œdo their own thingā€ is a powerful leadership skill and one that should be given to really empower people.
2) When you get that freedom of choice and independence, it feels soooooo good. Even if I choose not to exercise, it’s my choice (and I promise I’m exercising). Imagine how your people feel with that extra autonomy.
3) To quote my doctor ā€œyour knee will get worse before it gets better...so move with careā€. Getting the freedom to choose and do more means I now have the added responsibility to do consciously choose the best thing for me. Same holds true in how we lead and empower people around us. With freedom comes responsibility (and accountability).
4) Patience is a virtue (and one that I don’t have a lot of). I’m still enjoying having to slow down, take my time, and appreciate what is working (and what isn’t). Leaders also need to slow down and reflect and be intentional with how they move through the world.

That’s all for now. Next check-up (and hopefully more freedom) comes in 6 weeks! In the meantime, I’ll move slow, with intention, and will continue to push to build new muscle and skill.

Thanks for your support!!
