Primary Duties:
Sewing pieces in our leather accessories line (portfolios, bags, wallets, journals, etc.)

Additional Duties:

Leather Production Work
Leather cutting, lasering and washing
Notions preparation
Setting of rivets, snaps & other fasteners
Custom engraving
Stock for inventory or pack for orders
Assess supply levels for all products and communicate purchasing needs with Production Manager

Pen Production Work
Breaking down wood stock
Drill, glue and tube pen blanks
Barrel trim pen blanks
Turn, sand and polish pen blanks
Engrave and assemble finished pens
Custom engraving
Stock for inventory or pack for orders
Assess supply levels for all products and communicate purchasing needs with Production Manager

Shop & Equipment Maintenance
Weekly sweeping and organization of the shop
Monthly (or as needed) cleaning and maintenance of the tools:
Laser engraver
Sewing machines
Table saw
Band saw
Drill press
Lathes

Pack & Ship
Assist the Shipping Manager with pack & ship.

Other Duties As Assigned
Document processes to develop training and reference manuals for future staff.
Support other business needs to free up owners’ time time as necessary to focus on immediate revenue production.
Qualifications
At least one year experience in manufacturing/production environment.
At least five years experience sewing, preferably on industrial sewing machines.

Position Details
Pay Scale
$15/hour during training period..
$17/hour when team member is able to do most of all of the above with little direct supervision.
Hours & Scheduling
20-30 hours per week depending on the time of year (higher sales volume in May-June and November-December) and the other large-scale projects.
During training period (generally about 4-6 months) the Production Assistant needs to be working in the shop when Production Manager is available to do training (roughly 9-2 M-F).
After the Production Assistant is trained they can have quite a bit more flexibility in their hours. The Allegory shop is “open for business” 8:00 am - 6:30 pm. If non-traditional hours work better and quality & timely work is still getting done, team members can set their own hours.
Scheduling flexibility will vary depending on the projects in the shop at a given time and the availability of other Production Assistants and Production Manager.

We are down to the final stretch of our Kickstarter for The Grove Collection, and have been cranking them out in the shop this week with some help from our matching shop dogs, Oatie and Stanley. Dogs are a very important part of the handmade process 😉
