Wildflowers...throwback. I only have a few days left at my old spot. I’ve been playing ”Wildflowers” on repeat. It’s time to move on. A massive part of making this move was a promise to Bufford. It sounds corny, but it's true. He’s been by side for 10 years and his golden years belong somewhere he feels free. The day I decided I was moving to Colorado I had a dream of the two of us in the mountains together, despite the odds. We’ve roamed the wild in all season and pushed ourselves to the edge. When it became too dangerous, I got him sister and a mountain for retirement. Bufford, you are the Number One Baby Boy Forever. Here’s to you bud. We did it! We’ll share a Coors in a few days...
”You belong with your love on your arm” Literally. If we haven't met, I have a tattoo of Bufford as his spirit animal, a Bull Elk at our favorite backpacking spot: wrapped in Indian Paintbrush and clouds. We both know that mountain by muscle memory and always will. We belonged there and we both knew it. It's hard to explain high alpine ”anything, ” let alone high alpine solo trips for enlightenment...words don’t work. It’s a feeling of infinite love and a connection to some semblance of universal truth. Every morning I would wake up with Bufford on top of me in the tent. Despite his physical strength, he’s my baby boy.
