A Cherry for a Fallen Tiger:
David was my student and a lil brother. My goal for anybody that I teach or mentor is never to make them the next me. It’s to give them the tools to become a better version of themselves. My style of teaching is similar to a football coach. It’s firm, strong, and intentional. It’s designed to push you to your boundaries and make you stronger. Not to harden you, but to build your foundation. It’s tactical, strategic, and rooted in love.
Fun fact: he was the last person we brought on board and hired at Fat Tiger, which also made him the first person I hired to work with me and Kayla at Cherry Mountain. That says a lot about how much I believed in him. He was talented, charismatic, and always willing to learn. But more than that, he had his own quiet sense of drive. You could see it in the way he listened, the way he processed information, and the way he showed up.
We talked about art, life, and what it means to stand in your purpose. I appreciated how he carried himself with integrity. His humility and creativity will always echo in the spaces he touched.
As we approach the anniversary of his passing, I just want to say thank you and we love you, David. Thank you for trusting me, for letting me teach you, and for teaching me in return. Thank you for the connection. You’ll always be part of my journey, and your spirit will always live on in every young artist who walks through Cherry Mountain’s doors.
