newest installation in ECUEA. Part of our mural program for institutions; inspiring the youth by exposing them to mural workshops.
ECUEA’s mascot is a tiger- representing empowerment. Amongst the school. The installation is both a built structure for the school but also acts as a gallery to showcase the student’s artistic interpretation do what “empowerment means to them”.
On opening night- parents, guardians and staff came to celebrate the new installation, and also the children’s big artistic milestone. They worked together to make the installation come to life.
(Will post more tomorrow on their works)

“Mr. Popo 4Kidz”
Mixed medium on Canvas
50. 8 x 50.8 cm
In 2010, 4kids dropped an episode of DBZ Kai where Mr Popo appears. To address their concerns for potential discretions that western audience members may have- they chose to censor the character by turning Mr.Popo blue instead of black.
(Slide 4 is real image of show)
Although Popo is Hindu inspired- this censorship still showcases the sensitivity blackness has in media. Demonstrating how blackness in any form of media, is inherently political.
