Good morning all,
I had some thoughts and insights is wanted to share after my brunch this weekend.
To say the day didn't go as I had planned would be an understatement.
We had staff no show, guests that came early, guests that came late, bad communication between the kitchen and myself, food shortages and the list goes on.
While some were visibly upset and disappointed, as was I, they saw the situation we were in and were either VERY patient with us, gracefully came and asked for a refund and said hope my day got better or were rude, disrespectful and insulting to my staff, the performer and the photographer.
While all were well within their right to be upset some gave me grace. Three gave me hugs, who didn't know me and said this was just a set back and I'd come back bigger and better next time.
I have had several issues over my last couple of events and it's not easy to say your aren't on point all the time. But I dud learn these things.
1. Over plan and over staff because these hospitality shortages are real.
2. Own up to your mistakes the reasons don't matter but how you respond does.
3. Give grace and understanding. Even when your the one that is being disappointed in the scenario, it costs you nothing to be kind. But it may mean more than you know to the person receiving it.
