Mental health matters!

🧠 I want my kids to see that taking care of your brain is important. Brains work in different ways, and it’s never something to feel embarrassed about.

✨ I model positive self talk and body acceptance. Exercise and healthy eating are habits we model, and I narrate that I love how healthy habits make me feel.

❌ I’m not perfect in any way… and that’s the point. I don’t expect them to be perfect either. I apologize when I mess up, and I model that I’m responsible for managing my emotions.

What resonates most for you?

There’s no perfect script. This is how I’m talking to my kids about current events right now, focusing on empathy, history, and human dignity.

My kids are 10, 7, and 7. I didn’t expect to go quite as deep as we did, but they had a lot of questions. With family being impacted in various ways, they already had a level of awareness that needed clarity without creating fear.

Once we started talking, they had endless questions, thoughts, and ideas. It’s an ongoing conversation, and I’m really glad the lines of communication are open.
