Meet Libby! (FKA Hillary from ACCT)
Just before we closed our intake, we were asked if we could help her.

It took nearly 2 hours to cut through the mats that were holding her hostage, but what we found underneath those mats was horrifying! A literal SKELETON, covered with flakey, irritated, thin skin… pressure sores exposing bones. Not an ounce of fat on her body and barely any muscle. Grossly overgrown nails were wrapped up in the mats. This sweet girl has been neglected/starved for quite some time. Honestly, I can’t imagine what she had to endure and how did she survive this long in her condition???

Surprisingly, her labs were pretty good, considering her body score was 1.. only showing severe dehydration. Both her eyes suffered corneal abrasions, requiring drops to hopefully heal them.

We started our refeeding protocol with The Farmer's Dog (small meals every few hours), a warm bath, nail trim, subQ fluids, wound cleaning and dressing changes. Once we knew she could tolerate the small meals, we added supplements like Keifer, probiotics, Myos, Goat Milk. We gave her the comfiest bed, wrapped her in the softest blanket and she slept and slept and slept. She knew her nightmare was finally over and she was safe.

The next morning, she was woken up by a Grand Mal seizure! Lasting under a minute, her recovery was quick.. just a few minutes. We were hoping this was just caused by her poor condition and that as she put on weight and got healthy, we wouldn’t have to be concerned. But over the course of the next week, she suffered 3 more seizures! And so she’s also starting an anti-convulsive today.

Libby’s nightmare is finally over! She will have everything she needs from now on. She will learn that her meals are coming regularly and that she doesn’t have to eat so fast… there’s plenty! She’s quickly become a velcro dog, wanting attention, constant companionship and LOVE! We are honored and more than happy to oblige Libby!
