Want Smarter Kids? Teach Music, Not Coding, According to MIT The latest neuroscience shows that learning a musical instrument increases brain power.
WHAT GREAT JOY!
I taught a nine-year old some of the REASONS for note-taking, and a tiny bit of the "how-to" of note taking, quite a few weeks ago. I'd been planning on bringing this up again together with outlining, as note-taking is utterly essential to learning in all literate societies. My students who take good notes are the ones who are flourishing in life and studies. My students who do NOT take notes are the ones coming to me with failing grades and failing relationships.
So today, Ms. Student says near the end of class: "There's something VERY IMPORTANT I want to tell you!"
She pulled out her latest drawings from a drawing class she is taking from an artist. How beautiful they were, how the technique was so good.
WHY? Because she had TAKEN NOTES. She wrote down what her teacher was telling her while she was being told. The notes helped her review and get the material she was taught into her long-term working memory. So she KEPT what she learned, and could ACTUALLY USE IT - in a deep way, WITH RESULTS.
Dear friends. 9 years old, she "got it." She's on a path now to become a great learner and a highly successful young lady - in many areas of life.
PLEASE consider helping your loved ones learn how to TAKE NOTES. Consider learning it yourself if your own note-taking isn't quite formidable yet. A healthy mind - a good mind - a powerful mind. God created us in a truly wonderful way, and the mind is one of the most wonderful parts about us. But most of us let the mind fester. It becomes weak, or even ugly.
Learning to take notes can TURN THAT ALL AROUND, in a quiet yet powerful way.
