The Elizabeth Duncan Koontz (EDK) Committee, a subcommittee of the Human Relations Commission, is currently accepting nominations for the 2026 Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian Awards.
This award recognizes people and/or groups from the Salisbury-Rowan community who have made important contributions to improving human relations in the areas of education, employment, housing, industry, business, civic, church, advocacy and community service. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, April 24, 2026.

This award is named in memory of Elizabeth “Libby” Duncan Koontz who was one of the organizers who re-established the Human Relations Council in 1985. The Human Relations Council, now referred to as the Human Relations Commission (HRC), mission is to create an environment of hospitality, inclusiveness, acceptance and appreciation of the diversity of all people. Join the City of Salisbury for the "Cultivating Community Conversations: City Finance 101" on Tuesday, March 31, 6 p.m. at Salisbury City Hall, located at 217 S. Main St. This is an opportunity to learn more about how the City's Finance Department works and actively participate in the budget process.
