Just in from one of my students:
"Compliments of Hurricane Zeta, we've been without power. Per update from power company, restoration is expected 11/01, 11pm. I'm connected to the internet through my phone hotspot. Not sure how much I can put on it. Used a bright light camping lantern to see."

THIS STUDENT is still plodding away getting her group web assignment done DESPITE all the hardship. She did NOT give up. She's a professional IT program manager who decided she really needed to learn web technologies BETTER - and she is doing awesome!

She will go a LONG WAY as a web professional !!

I am so proud of my students !!!

[ update: I just helped student upload to server and get finishing touches ready ... it's a such a joy helping students this way !! ]

Our commoditized educational system is MASSIVELY turning students off the beauty and joy of web development.

I am hearing scores of complaints of students who are in classes that purport to teach students seven or eight different technologies / programming languages / frameworks ALL IN THE SAME CLASS.

Today is a bit of a nightmare day - I'm trying to help two students in the same class - they are going through HELL. This is one of the top-name American engineering universities. What they are expected to learn in this class is so insane - it is driving my students into huge anxiety. I do what I can to help.

I can help them with the assignment code and with the basics of what we are writing together. But to be honest - they are far from understanding it. It's like inviting a young person to have a drink and hitting them with a fire hose. It's insane.

BEWARE of programs you sign up for purporting to teach web development. HOW MUCH do they claim you'll learn?

You need good SUSTAINABLE education which allows you to KEEP what you learn in LONG TERM WORKING MEMORY.

In my opinion: PHP is the ONLY language offering a good, sustainable learning curve for people who aren't already highly adept at programming and technical thinking.

LEARN WEB DEVELOPMENT

- with a healthy, sustainable learning curve
- minimizing programming anxiety and learning anxiety
- tutoring time (and money) minimized, using good and inexpensive learning materials - both video and text / book.
- amazingly fun collaborative coding experiences with tutor

- a relatively easy door to the most complex types of thinking web developers and web engineers have to make, with an amazingly simple yet SOLID way of learning Model-View-Controller architecture.

Every week, I hear horror stories of students trying to learn web development in computer science classes at university and in bootcamps.

IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS.

Web development can be beautiful, and the learning experience can be both rewarding and joyful.

I'm one of the top few PHP tutors / mentors on two of the biggest tutoring platforms. You can see from my reviews, from the time I've put into researching how people actually LEARN to program, and in the methodologies I've put together to MAKE LEARNING TO PROGRAM ACTUALLY HAPPEN - I'm very likely one of the very best web development tutor / mentors in the world.
