Today at the pickleball courts at Veterans Community Park in Naples, I had one of those moments that just sticks with you.

A group of young Collier County firefighters were out there getting a workout in, and instantly it felt familiar. That bond. That energy. That unspoken understanding.

Law enforcement and firefighters are cut from the same cloth. It’s in the blood. My dad, my brother, and I were all police officers — first responders — and once you’re part of that world, you never really leave it. You recognize your own.

Standing there with them during Christmas hit differently. Hard to explain unless you’ve lived it. Brotherhood. Sisterhood. Service. Loyalty. Watching each other’s backs without needing to say a word.

I was genuinely honored to share the court with them today. And just like that, they’re part of the PickleStrong family.
