Exciting photo project news: I'm seeking portrait volunteers for "Young, Gifted and Black." I'll be partnering with the Salisbury Rowan NAACP on this project, which is wonderful.

Participants must be African American, be between the ages of 18 and 34, and have a connection to Rowan County, NC, such as living, attending school, working, or being born in Rowan County.

There is no cost to participate. Each person will receive a print of the final portrait. I will include a quote from each person to pair with the portrait.

The inspiration comes from the Nina Simone song “To Be Young, Gifted & Black.” She was inspired by the autobiography of Lorraine Hansberry, which was also titled the same. Hansberry was the first Black woman to have a play produced on Broadway, “A Raisin in the Sun.”

I'd like to invite everyone to the opening reception of Salisbury Pride's Community art show on Saturday, May 17th from 5 - 7 pm. I will have a portrait series adjacent to the show titled "Call Me By My Name," which will be portraits of the transgender community. It's been a pleasure to meet and photograph these fine individuals.
