Last night was so much fun! The Gallery at Morningstar held a fabulous opening reception for 70 artists and bunches of friends and art enthusiasts. The show title is “Sacred Earth: Sacred Responsibilities”. My art entry is embroidery on layers of plastic mesh, waste from colorful produce bags and titled, “Mesh Everlasting: Our Microplastic Disaster”.
🌎
It was awesome to see Tom and Amelia again. They are curators of the show and always so warm and welcoming. Just love them! The refreshments were a mouth watering treat while the background music was by The Seth Peagler Band.
🌍
It’s always special to meet a fellow South African over here, and last night I adored meeting Sarah Jackson. Turns out we will see each other again tonight at another art opening! 💖
🌏
Lastly, may you have a blessed day. I hope you feel very loved 🥰

Hey Greater Charlotte area friends! This one’s for you, but feel free to share it with anyone who might be interested! ArtPop is calling for applications for their 2026 Class of Artists. The Open Call is fast approaching on February 23.

Back in 2022, I knew little about ArtPop but I realised that two of my friends had their artwork displayed on billboards in the area. If they had been painters, I might never have considered applying, but since one is a ceramicist and the other a fiber artist—just like me—I thought, ‘Why not give it a shot?’

Now, looking back, I can’t imagine where I would be if I hadn’t taken that chance. Being part of the 2023 ArtPop cohort has given me so much more than a vinyl billboard. My fiber art was showcased on that billboard which traveled to various high-traffic locations around Charlotte and beyond. Independence Blvd, I-77 and I-85. Digital displays included Ballantyne Village, The Promenade, Panther Stadium, Charlotte Douglas Airport, and even on a Lynx train station! The epitome of amazing locations? It literally glowed in New York City’s Times Square on a stunning 96-ft illuminated display for a whole month. Incredible, right?

But the true highlight of this journey has been the incredible community of artists I’ve connected with. They are some of the most talented and generous people I’ve ever met, and I’ve formed wonderful friendships that I cherish.

If you’re an artist, I strongly encourage you to take the leap and apply to ArtPop! You have the chance to gain exposure and be part of something transformative. Trust me, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose!” 💙

There hasn’t been much in my feed lately. Sorry not sorry because my daughter and her husband are over from Germany and I’ve been soaking in all the precious moments! This is a recent hoop on crocheted lime green wire that I’ll debut at my upcoming fiber art show. I’m seriously considering leaving off the outer hoop. Your thoughts?
