Many website will throw together a “quick list” of things to do or not do to make your money last longer and go farther.

Problem is, these steps sound good at first but have horrible outcomes later.

By refinancing your credit card debt into a personal loan you might save yourself on interest. BUT they don’t teach you how to pay it off fast enough to make a difference using that new lower interest rate.

They also don’t tell you to close your credit card account and cut that stupid piece of plastic up! Now you have a brand new pretty personal loan with a cute low interest rate (which doesn’t mean much when you will still make minimum payments for years to come anyway) AND you have shiny new credit cards with the words of death attached to them: “available credit”

You may last a few months before pulling your old pal VISA or MasterCard back out, but it’s only a matter of time. You didn’t learn your lesson. You didn’t feel the pain of sacrifice to pay them off for good.
