A joint investigation by Sweden’s SVT, Norway’s NRK, Denmark’s DR, and Estonia’s Delfi found that Russia is expanding military infrastructure near the borders of Norway, Finland, and the Baltic states, as well as in Kaliningrad. Satellite imagery showed new barracks, ammunition storage facilities, and expanded military sites that could eventually support up to 115,000 troops.
Sweden’s military intelligence chief Thomas Nilsson said the buildup should be taken seriously as a potential preparation for a future confrontation with NATO. Russian officials have denied any intention of attacking NATO members, while President Vladimir Putin has dismissed such warnings as politically motivated.
