Client Spotlight: Diane’s Story

In June of 2025, Diane suffered a compression fracture in her thoracic spine after a fall. She was told to rest, take pain medication, and avoid activity. Even after a kyphoplasty and physical therapy, she continued dealing with pain for months.

Diane came back to training with me in December. We didn’t rush the process. We focused on what she could do, built strength gradually, and kept showing up consistently.

About nine months after the injury, something interesting happened. The pain was simply gone.

Today, Diane is 67 years old, training regularly, getting stronger every month, and working her way back to the level of strength she had before her injury.

One thing I’ve learned from my own back injury, and something Diane’s story reinforces, is that setbacks don’t have to define the rest of your life. Progress isn’t always linear. Sometimes it’s just showing up, doing the work, and trusting the process one day at a time.

1% better every day.

Most people think longevity is about living longer.

I don’t.

I think it’s about staying independent for as long as possible.

As a former CNA, I took care of people in their late 60s and 70s who already needed help getting dressed, getting out of bed, walking, and doing everyday tasks. That experience changed the way I look at health forever.

We don’t control everything. Genetics, accidents, and disease are part of life. But we do have control over how we move, how we train, what we eat, how much muscle we build, and how well we take care of our bodies today.

To me, longevity training isn’t about chasing a longer lifespan. It’s about giving yourself the best chance to stay autonomous. To keep doing the things you love. To make your own decisions. To stay physically capable for as many years as possible.

When you compare the cost of investing in your health versus the cost of losing your independence, the perspective changes.

I’d rather invest in my body now than spend my last 15 or 20 years simply existing.

Train for the life you want to live decades from now. Your future self is counting on you.

I don’t always feel motivated to work out.

Some days I’m tired. Some days I’d rather do something else. But I’ve learned that waiting for motivation is a losing game.

I look at movement the same way I look at brushing my teeth. It’s body hygiene.

Your body was designed to move. To be challenged. To stay strong. To maintain its function.

Most people don’t skip brushing their teeth because they don’t feel motivated. They do it because they know what happens if they don’t.

Exercise is no different.

I don’t train because I’m motivated. I train because I want to keep doing the things I love, stay independent, and keep my body functioning for as long as possible.

Motivation comes and goes.

Showing up is what matters.

A lot of people think the answer to low back pain is stretching.

Sometimes it is.

A lot of times it isn’t.

My own recovery taught me that rebuilding a resilient back often requires more than flexibility. It requires learning how to create stability, control movement, and progressively build strength through the trunk, hips, and spine.

These are some of the exercises that helped me regain capacity in my spine and low back after injury.

• Dead Bug with Sacrum Support
• Side Plank + Banded Clamshell
• Pallof Hold
• Bird Dog Row
• Weighted Hyperextension

The exercises themselves weren’t the magic.

The real lesson was graded exposure.

Learning how to challenge my back without overwhelming it. Learning how to pay attention to the feedback it was giving me. Learning when to progress, when to pull back, and how to gradually expand what my body could tolerate.

The goal isn’t to avoid loading the back.

The goal is to build a back that can tolerate more load, more movement, and more life.

Capacity isn’t built in a day.

It’s built one appropriate exposure at a time.

Which one of these exercises have you tried before?

MOVEMENT EXPERIENCE | JUNE SCHEDULE

If your body feels stiff, achy, disconnected, stressed, or simply not moving the way it used to, this class was built for you.

The Movement Experience is more than stretching and more than a workout. It’s a guided hour designed to help you reconnect with your body through breathwork, mobility, activation, corrective core training, strength, balance, and controlled movement patterns that support longevity and quality of life.

Every class blends science and soul.

We focus on improving mobility, building strength through usable ranges of motion, enhancing body awareness, regulating the nervous system, and creating a healthier relationship with movement. Some days you’ll be challenged. Some days you’ll slow down and reset. Either way, you’ll leave feeling better than when you walked in.

One of the things I love most about this class is the people. We have a diverse and eclectic group ranging from active adults to retirees, beginners to experienced movers. Different backgrounds, different goals, but all showing up with the same intention: to feel better, move better, and age well.

There’s no pressure to perform. No ego. Just good people supporting one another while learning how to move with more freedom, confidence, and resilience.
