"In Plain Sight" is now open for submissions.
Presented by Immaterial Gallery, a project of Immaterial Books, the 2026 exhibition continues a series rooted in Central Illinois photography and visual culture. Now in its third edition, the series is expanding the call to photographers working across the broader Midwest, inviting projects that look closely at place, region, and everyday visual experience.
Curated by Tim Hale, "In Plain Sight" asks how photography can help us see what is often overlooked or taken for granted: ordinary streets, familiar landscapes, storefronts, interiors, fields, roads, thresholds, signs, routines, and quiet traces of the past embedded in the present.
Selected works will be exhibited at Analog Wine Bar in Urbana, Illinois, from Dec 5, 2026 – Jan 5, 2027. Three selected projects will also be developed into small-format Field of Vision zines.
Alongside the exhibition, In Plain Sight will include public programming designed to build community around photography, place, and publication, including a Field of Vision Meet-Up with artist talks and informal work-sharing, and an In Plain Sight Photo Walk + Bar Crawl through Urbana/Champaign.
